How powerful are you? An exercise to see how powerful you really feel

Throughout this year we have seen many people in power be challenged about the way they are treating others. This includes people like Donald Trump and Harvey Weinsten but there are many, many more. These outings of these people abusing their power has created beautiful events and campaigns in a peaceful yet powerful way.

My favourite ones are:

  • The gorgeous campaign to bring out our awareness about abusing our use of sexual power with the ‘Me too’ campaign It’s all about not pointing the finger but instead outing ourselves for being a sexual predator so we can free ourselves from the past so we don’t behave this way in the future.
  • The Israeli and Palestinian women’s march for peace. These women crave to see an end to the conflict and war in the region and they say, “The leaders didn’t manage to do it so far, and it’s our responsibility to make it happen.” 
  • We can’t forget the beautiful peaceful protest of the Dakota Access pipeline that caught the attention of the world by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. They brought awareness to the world about the indigenous issues. Who knew that in 2014 30% of native American live in poverty and 7.5% don’t have access to clean safe drinking water in one of the richest countries on the world – America.

It shows how powerful we can all be if we find our fierce feminine within ourselves – not the angry one but the powerful one and combine her with the divine feminine who comes with love. Yes, even men have a blend of feminine and masculine in the us as women do. This is what gives us balance. By mixing our fierce strength with our love we can come to a place that is truly powerful.

Although, stepping out into the world and speaking our truth even when it might not be appreciated for some can be scary and might even stop some people from stepping out. I know so many women who are going through an inner conflict at the moment about whether they can stand up and say this is who I am am and this is what I stand for and being loud and proud of it.

What I believe we all need to realise that all women and men of the world are going through it. Some may just not be expressing it. The world is shifting and opening us up to our truth. It’ like a light is being shined on the stories we have created of who we think we are supposed to be. These stores are being broken down. It can sometimes feel like our truth and all that we know is being shattered, which can be quite confronting. It can make people react in all sorts of ways to avoid it.

Many people have been getting busy with their lives and then getting busier and busier still. All this to avoid looking at how they really feel. They don’t have time. By not feeling their truth they are exhausting themselves. These stories they have created are wearing them down and making them not just tired but really exhausted but yet they still continue with their busy lives to avoid feeling.

I’d like to give you some incentive to rip down the stories you have created that stop you from being your authentic self and are keeping you in a place of pain and exhaustion.

Feel your heart exercise

Close your eyes and feel your heart in your chest. Relax your body, so you are in a place of total relaxation then bring your awareness to your heart. What does it feel like…Is it big? Is it small? Is it tight? Is it painful? Is it heavy? Is it light? Is it hot? Is it cold? Really feel it.

Feel your power exercise

Now I want to move your awareness to feel your power. To do this you need to feel all the energy of your body in its entirety.

Let’s go to a place that may be a little confronting for some to shine a light on how powerful we really feel.

I want you to think of someone you look up to, someone you admire and who is an inspiration for you. I want you to imagine yourself standing there in front of them. Now how do you feel? Feel the energy all over you body. How is your posture? Do you stand tall? Are you bouncing round? Are your shoulders rolled forward? How does you energy feel? Is it strong? Or is it weak? Is it somewhere in the middle? Do you want to run away?

Most of us will probably feel not as strong and powerful as we might in other situations. There is no reason we can’t feel just as powerful as the person who inspires us. We believe the same things they do. We just need to find our strength and step into that person.

Now let’s try an exercise to see what it would feel like to be that powerful person.

Think about something you’d like to achieve. Even if you don’t really know of anything think about what do you think would be a cool thing to do. You might want to climb a mountain, you might want to write a book and be standing in front of people after having done this and they are congratulating you. It might be something smaller like watching your kids graduate with pride in themselves. Don’t force a thought, just relax and go with the first thing that comes to your mind.

Now picture yourself there having achieved that thing. Now how do you feel? Feel the energy all over you body. How is your posture? Do you stand tall? Are you bouncing round? Are your shoulders rolled forward? How does you energy feel? Is it strong? Or is it weak? Is it somewhere in the middle? Do you want to run away?

We all have heard that our thoughts create our world. But many of us get stuck in a cycle of repetitive thoughts and beat ourselves for not being perfect and struggle to break free from this cycle. What if all it took to break free from the negative thoughts was incentive and feeling? If you remember that feeling of being powerful then to can be that person filled with power and strength and living a meaningful and fulfilling life.

If you feel it you can be it. Try going to that place of feeling powerful everyday and you will find yourself becoming more aligned with it. Think about what you need to do and change in your life to become that powerful person and make steps everyday to do that. Set yourself little goals, ones that are achievable and smash those goals. You will start to feel more and more powerful, until before you know it that big goal is right in front of you ready to be smashed.
